The final musical performance is put together with the help of the mixer. Each part is assigned to a channel. The volume of each part is set by adjusting its sliding fader. The mix is very important. Mixing takes practice, and requires careful listening.
Mastering
Once the mix is complete, mastering of the definitive CD takes place.
A run of CDs will be created from the master.
The aim of the mastering process is to make the music sound as good as possible. The way the music sounds - 'bright', 'bassy', loud or quiet - depends on how it is mastered.
